  1. it helped the sound 4 Star Review

Posted by on 19th Feb 2023

I put the tone enhancer on a Gretsch Broadkaster without a tone ring. It definitely gave the banjo a brighter sound and louder. It improved the sound as advertised. I think a bigger version, maybe circular would even be a bigger improvement.

  2. Out of Pocket only 20 Bucks 3 Star Review

Posted by on 1st Sep 2016

Rather than play with this myself, I took my Alvarez Denver Belle to the local music shop and had my set-up guy spend some time with this tone enhancer. His opinion was minimal enhancing, with only a slight improvement in sound. Glad I didn't spend the extra 10 bucks for the nickel plated version.

  3. a BanjoMate for life 5 Star Review

Posted by on 11th Oct 2015

Yep! Just what the doctor ordered. A little playing around to find the perfect spot and then BAM!!! Jokes aside;0) But it really does make a wonderful difference. At least in my banjo. Leaves it ringing clear and with a bit more sustain. My high notes cuts through and the bass string have more punch.

So, all in all.... Go get yourself one!!! :0)

  4. Clear tone & more volume 5 Star Review

  5. My Two Cents Regarding The Banjo Mate Tone Enhancer 5 Star Review

Posted by on 3rd Jan 2015

I've been playing heavy-weight, Mastertone-style banjos with tone rings for 30 years now. Being 55, my body finally began to tell me that spending a few hours (standing) while playing banjos of this weight was no longer a good thing for my lower back. I decided to look for a lighter-weight banjo, and settled on the Gold Tone BG-150f - which has the simple brass tone hoop that sits on top of the wooden rim, instead of a tone ring. I lost 5 pounds in weight, but I also lost quite a bit of sustain, volume, and tone. The Banjo Mate Tone Enhancer was exactly what I needed in order to regain some of what I had lost - not all, certainly - but enough to make this banjo serviceable in just about any situation. I've already gigged with it through a mic, gone to a large jam session, and am pleased with how it performed in those settings. To my ear, the notes come out clearer, with more sustain, and a bit more volume. It was fun playing around with the position of the enhancer to find that "sweet spot." I'm completely satisfied with this product, and would recommend it to any banjo player who is looking to wean him/herself off of heavy banjos.

  6. A definite difference 5 Star Review

I could tell an instant difference in my banjo's sound. I took a few moves to find the right spot, but it improves the sound.

  7. So simple, yet so effective! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 21st Apr 2014

The banjomate breathed more life and power into my Goodtime open back with Ez-Rez pop off resonator. Now I have a lightweight(4 1/2 lb) virtual cannon! Lol My back appreciates it and I also feel it gave my bass string more punch and the banjo is louder. I'm sold!

Ps: to make the banjomate work with the EZ-Rez, I slotted it with a Dremel tool and and reattached the pop off feature on the ez-res using the existing hardware minus one washer.

  8. It really works! 5 Star Review

Took a while to find the "sweet spot" but when I did - woooweee! To my ear a considerably improvement in tone and marginal increase in volume. Worth a try.

  9. BanjoMate Tone Enhancer....Wow 5 Star Review

Posted by on 25th Feb 2013

Well, I'm always skeptical, and I was about this item, until I actually put one into a banjo to see and hear for myself. It's really impressive. I got one for my Sullivan Jam banjo. The banjo is really a lot more responsive. Just to be sure, I removed it, and the banjo became comparative dullsville. Anyhow, it's an inexpensive but effective upgrade. It helps the resonator to, well, resonate. Little Mountain Music has really come up with a good product.

  10. It actually does work! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 25th Jan 2013

I read about this product on The Banjo Hangout where several people said it works. So I figured "what the heck, for only $20, I'll try it."
I was amazed to find out that it really improved the sound of my banjo. Not just any banjo, but an already well set up Gibson Mastertone. The banjo is now louder and has a clearer tone. It's like some kind of voodoo.
